This state treasure is a nature lover’s paradise. Encompassing more than 2,174 acres, the park is haven for birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts. It is home to many varieties of birds, along with deer and other wildlife native to this part of Texas. Varied hiking trails are available for different skill and ability levels. The park also is favorite fall destination for Texans seeking to take in the autumn colors. Located at the intersection of state highway 337 and 187, the Lost Maples General Store and gas station serves as a gathering place for locals and visitors with free Wi-Fi, basic provisions and more. Whether you are on a day trip to the area or you are staying in one of the local cabins, the store provides all the things you’ll need. Barbeque is available on the weekends. Coffee, sodas, beer and ice are available with a welcoming spirit and local knowledge. An outpost for visitors for years, the store has been renovated and improved by new owners who purchased the store in 2012.

Located in Tarpley, Mac & Ernie's has lunch on Fridays and Saturdays that includes hamburgers, cheeseburgers, and their famous Cabrito Burger. Dinners on Friday and Saturday night feature steaks, catfish, ancho chile honey basted quail and specials such as grilled pork tenderloin with a sweet-tart Vietnamese dipping sauce or grilled Tuna with roasted Jalapeno Mayonnaise.
